If you want a compact, repeatable drill that trains weapon manipulation, reloads (with and without retention), movement, and the tradeoff between speed and accuracy — this 50-round Course of Fire (COF) is for you. I designed it so most shooters can run it at a typical outdoor range or private facility, and it highlights the fundamentals you should
Why this COF matters
This drill intentionally mixes distances, movement, and forced magazine changes so you practice:
• Basic weapon manipulation (presentation, reloads, muzzle awareness while moving)
• Reloads both with retention and without — done as part of the drill, not afterwards
• Balancing accuracy vs. speed — some strings reward precise A-hits; some demand tempo
• Movement and transitions — shooting on the move, changing angles, and shooting two targets side-by-side
It’s simple to understand but challenging to execute — and that’s the point. The COF exposes weak fundamentals quickly.
